Advertising conventions

1) What conventions of an advert can you find and what are the connotations of each one?
Pictures- The picture of the product is advertised in the centre of the poster. It shows the trainers as the writing underneath promotes it even more.
Logo/Slogan-The logo is shown underneath the slogan (Just do it) they are both typical trademarks of nike.
The Background-The background is plain the show the trainers more clear and the small writing promoting the product.

2) For each convention, write about how this appeals to a target audience. 

3) What is the USP (unique selling point) of the product and how do you know?

Tatler: case study blog task

1) Based on the trailer, what type of people produce and read Tatler? Consider demographics and psychographics?
The type of people that read taller are mostly upper to middle class as most of the things in the magazine are relatable to them, like hunting or horse riding. Furthermore the adverts in the magazine will be expensive clothing.

2) Look at the Tatler media pack 2018. Go to page 2: how does the editor introduce the magazine?
The writer tries to hook people who want to advertise by stating that “tatlers audience loves to shop”

3) Now go to page 4 of the Media Pack. Focus on the print magazine (NOT tatler.com - the website). List the key demographic details: age, gender %, ABC1 % (social class), HHI (Household Income), % of those living in London and the South East. What do these demographic details suggest about the average Tatler reader?
Tatlers average reader age is 41 years old.83% of their readers are in the ABC social groups this shows that it exclusively targets the upper classes.The average household income further it is a staggering £261,572 which is almost 10 times the average household income in the UK.

4) Look at page 6. What do Tatler readers think about fashion? How much do they spend?
96% of tattler readers wear designer clothing, furthermore £843 million was spent on fashion in last year.

5) Go to page 10. What are the special editions of Tatler that run throughout the year? What does this suggest about the pyschographic groups who read Tatler?
The special editions all feature things that mainly upper class females would enjoy, for example the beauty and cosmetic surgery guide may give tips that will help people who have been through plastic surgery or are looking to get it done.

2) What is the font choice used in the title and what does this choice connote? 
It is serif font, this shows sophistication and class.


3) What font is used for the cover lines? What does that choice connote?

The sans-serif fonts used for the cover lines present the magazine as modern.

4) How do the cover lines appeal to the Tatler target audience?
Tatlers target audience is younger richer people so the sans-serif font gives it a more modern look.


5) What are the connotations of the Tatler colour scheme on this particular front cover?
The pink stands out and gives it a feminine look. Furthermore the white gives it a modern look.


 6) How is the central image designed to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. Mise-en-scene such as props, costume and make-up, body position, facial expression)
 The costume makes the magazine look interesting because the outfit is very unusual and is all gold, a colour associated with wealth.
The makeup is very professional and extravagant suggesting that this magazine is mainly for upper class people.
Also the models eye is at the centre of the image which shows that they want to connect with you.
